Completion Bonuses & Streaks

Completion Bonuses reward students for finishing all their work each day and building consistent habits over time. On top of per-lesson and per-task coins, students can earn bonus coins through two systems: a daily completion bonus and a weekly consistency bonus based on gold streaks.

Daily Completion Bonus

When a student completes everything due for the day, they earn a daily completion bonus.

What Counts as "Complete"

A day is complete when every due item is finished:

  • Lessons — all non-skipped lessons on the schedule for that day must be marked complete
  • Tasks — all extra work tasks assigned to that day must be marked complete
  • Recurring tasks — if a recurring task (e.g., "Practice Piano" on Mon/Wed/Fri) is due on that day, it counts toward the day's requirements — even if the student hasn't opened or interacted with it yet

What Doesn't Count

Some items are excluded from the day's requirements entirely:

  • Skipped lessons — removed from the day's count completely. If you have 4 lessons and skip 1, you only need to complete the remaining 3 to earn the bonus
  • Deleted items — removed from requirements. The bonus is based on whatever remains
  • Days with no work — if nothing is due (e.g., a weekend or holiday with no scheduled work), the day is not eligible for a daily bonus

Earning & Losing the Daily Bonus

  • The daily bonus is awarded instantly when the last item for today is completed
  • If you reopen an item (mark it incomplete), the bonus is reversed immediately
  • Complete it again and the bonus is re-earned — there's no penalty for toggling
  • Past days are locked — only today's bonus can be earned or reversed

Configuring the Daily Bonus

Go to Settings to set the daily completion bonus amount:

  • Choose any value from 0 to 100 coins
  • Set to 0 to disable the daily bonus
  • The default is 0 (disabled)

Gold Streaks

A gold streak tracks how many consecutive days a student has completed all their work. Gold streaks power the weekly consistency bonus.

How the Streak Is Calculated

The streak counts backward from today:

  1. Look at yesterday — was everything due completed? If yes, streak is 1. Continue backward.
  2. For each prior day, if all work was completed, add 1 to the streak. Keep going.
  3. If a past day had work due but it wasn't all completed — the streak breaks and stops counting.

Non-eligible days are skipped, not broken. If a day has nothing due (no lessons, no tasks), it's invisible to the streak. Weekends, holidays, and days off don't break your streak — they just don't count toward it.

Today gets a grace period. If today's work isn't finished yet, the streak still shows based on prior completed days. Today's incomplete work won't erase a streak you've already built. Once you complete today, it gets added to the streak.

Example: Building a Gold Streak

DayWork DueCompletedStreak
Monday3 lessons, 1 taskAll done1
Tuesday2 lessonsAll done2
Wednesday— (day off)2 (skipped)
Thursday3 lessons, 2 tasksAll done3
Friday2 lessonsAll done4
Saturday— (no work)4 (skipped)
Sunday— (no work)4 (skipped)
Monday3 lessons, 1 taskAll done5

Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday don't break the streak because no work was due.

What Breaks a Streak

A streak breaks when a past day had work due but not all of it was completed. Common causes:

  • A lesson was left incomplete
  • A task wasn't finished
  • A recurring task was due on a day but wasn't completed — for example, "Shower/Bath" is set to Tue/Thu/Sat but Tuesday was missed

Tip: If a recurring task (like a daily chore) was due but never completed on a particular day, that day counts as incomplete and breaks the streak. Make sure recurring tasks are completed or adjust the schedule to match what's realistic.

Weekly Consistency Bonus

The weekly consistency bonus rewards sustained effort. Every time a student's gold streak reaches a 7-day milestone, they earn the weekly bonus.

How It Works

  • At 7 completed days, the student earns their first weekly bonus
  • At 14 completed days, they earn a second weekly bonus
  • At 21 completed days, a third — and so on, every 7 days
  • These milestones apply to the current uninterrupted gold streak, not calendar weeks
  • If the streak breaks on a day where work was due but not fully completed, weekly bonus progress resets for the next streak run

The cycle progress shows where the student is within the current 7-day cycle:

StreakMilestones EarnedCycle ProgressDays to Next Bonus
4 days04/73 more days
7 days10/7 (new cycle)7 more days
10 days13/74 more days
14 days20/7 (new cycle)7 more days
20 days26/71 more day
21 days30/7 (new cycle)7 more days

Milestones Are Permanent

Once a weekly milestone is earned, it is never reversed — even if the streak later drops below the threshold. Milestones are achievements that stick.

Example: A student builds a 14-day streak and earns 2 weekly bonuses. Then they miss a day, breaking the streak. The 2 weekly bonuses remain — the coins are not taken back. Their next streak starts over at 0 progress, but when they build a brand-new streak, they can earn the 7-day weekly bonus again for that new run.

This means weekly bonuses only ever go up, never down. Students don't lose coins they've already earned, and a fresh streak can start a fresh 7/14/21-day reward cycle.

Configuring the Weekly Bonus

Set the weekly consistency bonus amount in Settings:

  • Choose any value from 0 to 100 coins
  • Set to 0 to disable the weekly bonus
  • The default is 0 (disabled)

Bonus Hints

The progress view shows bonus hints to motivate students when they're close to earning a bonus:

  • Daily hint — when exactly 1 item remains for the day, shows "1 left for +X" to encourage finishing
  • Weekly hint — when the student is 1 day away from a weekly milestone (e.g., streak at 6/7), shows "Gold streak 6/7 for +Y" as extra motivation

Hints only appear when today's work is not yet complete — they're motivational nudges to help students push through to the finish.

Holidays & Breaks

When the Skip tasks on holidays/breaks setting is enabled:

  • Tasks due on holidays, breaks, or suppressed days are excluded from completion requirements
  • Those days may become non-eligible (nothing due), in which case they're invisible to streaks
  • This prevents holidays from unfairly breaking a student's streak
  • A vacation week with no work due pauses the streak — it does not break the streak, and it does not award bonus progress by itself

Confetti Celebration

When a student completes all their daily work and earns the completion bonus, a confetti animation plays to celebrate the achievement. It's a fun visual reward on top of the coins!

Tip: Start with small bonus amounts and adjust as you see what motivates your students. Even a few bonus coins per day can be a powerful incentive — and the weekly bonus gives an extra reason to stay consistent!
