Rewards & Coins
The rewards system lets students earn coins for completing their lessons and tasks. Parents and guardians decide what those coins are worth — whether it's extra screen time, a treat, or anything else that motivates your learner.
How Students Earn Coins
Students earn coins automatically in several ways:
Completing Curriculum Lessons
When you create or edit a curriculum schedule, you can set the Coins per Lesson value (1–100 coins). Every time a student completes a lesson in that curriculum, they earn that many coins. The default is 1 coin per lesson.
You can set different coin values for different curricula — for example, 3 coins for a challenging math lesson and 1 coin for an easier reading lesson.
Completing Extra Work & Tasks
When creating extra tasks or chores, each task has its own Coins Earned value (1–100 coins). Students earn those coins when they mark the task as complete. This works for one-time tasks as well as recurring daily, weekly, or monthly tasks.
Completion Bonuses
Students can earn extra coins through daily and weekly completion bonuses. See Completion Bonuses & Streaks for details.
Tip: If a lesson or task is accidentally marked complete and then undone, the earned coins are automatically reversed — so balances always stay accurate.
Viewing Coin Balances
You can see each student's coin balance in several places:
- Students tab — Each student card displays their current coin balance next to their name.
- Coin History screen — Toggle to the Rewards view on the Students tab to see a full dashboard with balances for every student, including a breakdown of total earned, total spent, and current balance.
Transaction History
The Rewards view includes a complete timeline of every coin transaction:
- What was earned or spent, and when
- Which lesson or task triggered the transaction
- Filter by date range (7 days, 30 days, or all time)
- Filter by student or transaction type
Reward Shop
The Reward Shop lets you create custom rewards that students can redeem their coins for. This turns coins into a tangible motivation system tailored to your family.
Creating Rewards
- Go to the Students tab and toggle to the Rewards view
- Scroll to the Reward Shop section
- Tap Add Reward
- Enter a name for the reward (e.g., "30 min extra screen time", "Ice cream trip")
- Set the cost in coins
- Optionally add notes (e.g., "Only on weekends" or "Parent's choice of flavor")
- Save the reward
Rewards are sorted by cost (highest first), so the most valuable rewards appear at the top.
Redeeming Rewards
When a student is ready to cash in their coins for a reward:
- Open the Rewards view on the Students tab
- Find the reward in the Reward Shop section
- Tap the Redeem button on the reward
- Select which students are redeeming (you can select multiple)
- Set the quantity (how many of this reward to redeem)
- Review the total cost per student — each selected student pays the full amount
- Tap Redeem to confirm
The coins are deducted from each selected student's balance, and the transactions appear in their history. If a student doesn't have enough coins, they'll be shown as ineligible.
Note: A student must have enough coins to cover the full cost (reward cost × quantity). If they're short, they won't appear as selectable in the redemption screen.
Managing Rewards
- Edit a reward by tapping on it in the Reward Shop — you can change the name, cost, or notes
- Delete a reward by opening the editor and tapping the delete option
- Each reward shows when it was last redeemed and by whom, so you can track usage
Cashing In Coins (Quick Spend)
For one-off redemptions outside the Reward Shop:
- Go to the Students tab
- Tap the menu on the student's card
- Select Cash In Coins
- Enter the number of coins to redeem
- Optionally add a description of the reward (e.g., "Extra 30 min screen time")
- Confirm the transaction
The coins are deducted from the student's balance and the transaction appears in their history.
Your rewards, your rules: Whether you use the Reward Shop for structured rewards or quick cash-ins for spontaneous treats, you decide what coins are worth for your family. Some families use coins for screen time, others for allowance money, outings, or special privileges. Whatever motivates your students!
Manual Adjustments
Parents can manually add or deduct coins from the Rewards view on the Students tab. This is useful for:
- Bonus rewards for exceptional effort or behavior
- Correcting a balance if needed
- Special one-off rewards outside of regular lessons
All manual adjustments are tracked in the transaction history with a description, so you always have a clear record.
