Notifications
Notifications keep you informed about schedules, streaks, and lesson timers without having to keep the app open. You can configure each notification type independently in Settings → Notifications.
Notification Types
Daily Summary
A morning notification with yesterday's recap and today's agenda. Enable this to start each day knowing what's on the schedule.
- Toggle on/off independently
- Configure the delivery time (defaults to 7:00 AM)
- Content includes what was completed yesterday and what's planned for today
Weekly Summary
An end-of-week recap notification summarizing the week's progress.
- Toggle on/off independently
- Configure which day of the week it's sent (defaults to Sunday)
- Configure the delivery time (defaults to 6:00 PM)
Streak at Risk
An alert when a student has a 3+ day streak that might break if they don't complete their work today.
- Toggle on/off independently
- Configure the check time — when the app evaluates whether streaks are at risk (defaults to 3:00 PM)
- Only fires when there's an active streak of 3 or more days that hasn't been maintained yet for the current day
Tip: Set the streak-at-risk check time for the afternoon — early enough that there's still time to finish, but late enough that most work should be done.
Task In Progress Too Long
An alert when a task has been in progress (timer running) beyond a configurable time limit.
- Toggle on/off independently
- Configure the time limit threshold:
- 30 minutes
- 1 hour
- 1.5 hours
- 2 hours (default)
- 3 hours
- 4 hours
- Useful for catching forgotten timers or tasks that are taking longer than expected
Permissions
The first time you enable any notification, the app will request notification permissions from your device.
iOS
- Notifications require explicit permission — the app prompts you on first use
- Notifications work even when the app is in the background
- Notification sounds follow your device's notification settings
Android
- Android 12 and below grant notification permissions by default
- Android 13+ requires explicit permission — the app prompts you
- Notification channels allow fine-grained control in your device's settings
Tip: If you're not receiving notifications, check your device's notification settings to make sure Homeschool Scheduler has permission to send them.
