Troubleshooting
Having trouble? Here are solutions to common issues and answers to frequently asked questions.
Sync Issues
Data not syncing between devices
- Ensure Family Sync is enabled in Settings on both devices
- Check that both devices are joined to the same family code
- Try the manual "Sync Now" button
- Check your internet connection
Sync conflicts
If the same data was modified on multiple devices while offline, the most recent change will be kept. To avoid conflicts, sync regularly.
Schedule Issues
Lessons not appearing on expected dates
- Check that the date falls within your schedule's date range
- Verify the day of week is selected in your school days
- Check if a holiday or break is blocking that date
Schedule shows wrong estimated completion
The estimated completion date is calculated based on remaining lessons and your school days. If it seems wrong:
- Check your lessons per day setting
- Review your selected school days
- Check for upcoming breaks that might extend the schedule
Tasks not appearing
If recurring tasks aren't showing up:
- Check the recurrence date range — the task may have an end date in the past
- Check the recurrence pattern — make sure the correct days are selected
- If you have Skip tasks on holidays/breaks enabled, check if the day falls on a configured break
Rewards Issues
Completion bonus not earned
To earn the daily completion bonus, all non-skipped lessons and tasks for the day must be complete. Common reasons it's not awarded:
- An extra work task hasn't been checked off
- A new task was added after you thought everything was done
- A recurring task you forgot about is due today
Note: Skipped lessons don't block the completion bonus — they're excluded from the "due" count entirely. So you can skip a lesson and still earn the bonus if everything else is done.
Grades not showing
Grades must be set from the schedule card's three dots menu, then Evaluate / Grade. They don't appear automatically — you need to manually add them for each curriculum.
Timer Issues
Timer still running notification
If you receive a notification that a timer is still running:
- Open the app and navigate to the lesson with the active timer
- Tap the timer to stop it
- The elapsed time will be saved
If you can't find the running timer, check the Day View or Kanban View for a timer indicator on lesson cards.
Data Issues
App is running slowly
- Close and reopen the app
- Ensure your device has available storage
- Check for app updates in the App Store or Google Play
Data appears to be missing
- Pull down to refresh the current screen
- Check if filters are hiding data
- Try restoring from a backup if available
Backup restore didn't work
If a restore doesn't seem to have applied correctly:
- Make sure you confirmed the restore (not just previewed it)
- Close and reopen the app after restoring
- If using Family Sync, do a manual sync after the restore to push changes to the cloud
- Check the restore preview again — it shows exactly what will change
Android-Specific Issues
Notifications not appearing
- On Android 13+, check that you've granted notification permission to the app
- Go to your device's Settings, then Apps, then Homeschool Scheduler, then Notifications
- Make sure the notification channels are enabled
App crashing on startup
- Clear the app cache (Settings, then Apps, then Homeschool Scheduler, then Clear Cache)
- If that doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling (your data will be lost unless you have a backup or Family Sync)
